surgical
- crown lengthening
There
are periodontal procedures that give us the bases for restorative
and esthetic dentistry and/or to improve your smile´s health
and esthetics.
Crown
lengthening is a surgical procedure that remodels the contours of
gum tissues and often bone around one or more teeth to expose enough
healthy tooth structure. Crown lengthening is often used as part of
the treatment plan for a tooth that will receive a crown. That way
we provide the necessary space between the support tooth, bone and
the crown to avoid damage to the gum tissues and bone.
Your
dentist or your periodontist can also recommend a crown lengthening
to make a restorative procedure possible. If a tooth is worn down
too much, has caries or is fractured under the gum line, crown lengthening
adjusts the gum and bone levels giving access to a larger part of
the tooth so it can be restorated.
What
are the benefits of this procedure?
Crown
lengthening is an important part of the global effort to better improve
your health, appearance, comfort and function. With a new beautiful
smile and good periodontal health, you will smile, eat, and speak
with comfort and confidence.
